“Ever tried, ever failed. No Matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail Better.” – Samuel Beckett
A love story, between UMO and Beckett. With a teeter totter. And ropes.
UMO explores the thoughts, themes, characters and images inspired by the writing of Samuel Beckett with FAIL BETTER, their critically acclaimed love letter to Samuel Beckett. Five archetypal Beckett characters tackle love, life, death, and going-on in typical Beckett fashion: with humor, metaphor, stillness, and gross indecency - creating a living, visceral experience. Their exploration takes them into the air on aerial ropes, balancing on a giant sculptural teeter totter and reacting in a sonic world that is the imagined inside of Beckett’s head.
UMO is thrilled to welcome Guest Artists Terry Crane and Jimmy Garver to FAIL BETTER once again. Terry is a world-renowned rope artist, and Jimmy is an extraordinary sound designer. Jon Schroeder, master set builder, designed our giant teeter totter. UMO Ensemble members Janet McAlpin, David Godsey, Maria Glanz and Lyam White perform, and Elizabeth Klob, executive artist of UMO, directs and serves as artistic visionary.
