Partner Acro w/ Melissa Knowles
Melissa will focus on handstand work, 2 highs and partner skills. Come explore a range of exercises and skills from a partner acro expert! No partner required for this workshop.

Aerial Spring Performance Session
Students in this session are expected to participate in the spring performance on JUNE 6 and 7. If students do not wish to perform, they can take a non performance class offered at their level.
Students taking aerial classes will learn basics on aerial sling, tissue, rope and trapeze as well as gaining the strength, active flexibility and mental focus required to progress safely on any given aerial apparatus. Students will progress beginning in Aerial Tumblers, moving through the levels to our most advanced class, Aerial Performance, where they will develop routines on their preferred apparatus.

Aerial Tumblers
(ages 5-7)
In Aerial Tumblers, we’ll work towards gaining the body awareness, focus, and behavior required to move on to a higher level tumbling or aerial class. We will also work on strengthening basic shapes like hollow body and plank, and developing some active flexibility while beginning awareness on the tissue and sling aerial apparatus in a fun class environment.

Aerial Intro A
(ages 6-11)
This class will start students on the basics of aerial sling and tissue. Students will learn to climb, do foot keys and develop the proper body form to build strength to climb and do tricks in the air. Students need to be good listeners and have a good sense of focus for this class in order to safely learn aerial. Prerequisite: Aerial Tumblers.

Aerial Intro B
(ages 6-11)
In Aerial Intro B we will start learning foundational skills on the fabric and sling while building strength, flexibility and body awareness. Each class will begin with a ground warmup that will include some conditioning drills like plank and hollow body, followed by a warmup on the apparatus before learning skills in the air. In this class you will learn to hang, invert and climb as well as some fun poses on the fabric and sling. Returning Intro students that demonstrate focus in class will have the option to move to Aerial 1 for the next session.
Prerequisite: at least one session of Aerial Intro A

Aerial 1
(ages 8-16)
In this Aerial 1 session we will continue to build on the skills we learned in Aerial Intro and will include a more challenging warm up routine. There will be more focus on proper technique as you move through sequences with grace and control.

Aerial 1.5
(ages 8-16)
In Aerial 1.5 students will continue to build strength and flexibility while expanding their aerial vocabulary. Students will also work on their skills and endurance.

Aerial 2
(ages 9-17)
Aerial 2 continues to build strength and flexibility while expanding the tricks students will be able to learn, including intro to new apparatus.
Prerequisites: Aerial Intro and Aerial 1, or by instructor permission.

Aerial 2.5
(ages 11-18)
Aerial 2.5 is for Aerial 2 and Aerial 3 students interested in building their aerial skills with an additional class. We will continue to expand on our existing skills while focusing on strength, technique and building endurance in the air.
Prerequisites: Aerial 1 and Aerial 2, or by instructor permission.

Aerial 3/Performance
(ages 12-18)
Aerial 3/Performance is designed for the most advanced and committed aerial students who are interested in advancing to professional aerial performance work. Aerial 3 is for serious aerial students, building on their existing skills and adding more challenging skills and experimenting with new apparatus. This class requires a 3 day/week commitment, however 4 days is encouraged. Open Gym is held Wednesday from 3:15pm-4:15pm and is included as open training time as well as a make-up day in case of absence.
Students are encouraged to work and master at least one apparatus, build a routine(s) and work toward an end of session performance. This level will also train students to perform at professional gigs.
This level is not for everyone! Students who are not ready for this level of commitment can stay in Aerial 2-3 and continue to enjoy and learn advanced aerial skills.

We will build the fundamentals of handstands in this class. We will cover techniques of mat acrobatics, build strength and flexibility and begin to focus these skills toward partner acro.

Parkour
Parkour is the art of navigating the space between the sky and the ground with grace. Through practicing Parkour students become stronger, more agile, more confident, and able to do amazing superhero feats. We believe Parkour has something to offer everyone. We believe students learn best while having fun. Parkour teaches the art of overcoming obstacles, challenges and fear while instilling a practice of safety. We also incorporate creativity, movement, exploration and play into all of the parkour classes. All the classes teach movement elements along with psychological skills.

(ages 5-8)
Students will work on the foundations of parkour through a series of fun games and obstacle courses combined with basic parkour moves and freerunning. Bring loose clothing and lots of energy!

Parkour Basics and Games - Monday
(ages 7-12)
Students will learn the foundational movements of parkour through a series of fun games and obstacle courses. These games teach safe movement techniques while helping students develop strong social emotional skills of cooperation, teamwork and leadership. In parkour games students develop balance, strength, discipline, self confidence, and leadership. Bring loose clothing and be prepared for a fun challenge!

Parkour Basics and Tricks
(ages 10-16)
In this class we will cover basic Parkour moves and freerunning tricks. Students will learn a variety of techniques and movements and apply them in games, challenges and obstacle courses. In parkour students develop balance, strength, discipline, self confidence, leadership, and overcome fears & limitations. Bring loose clothing and be prepared to move!

Parkour - Intermediate
(ages 8-13)
In this class we will build on fundamental parkour techniques to develop the students as well rounded parkour athletes. Students can expect to apply the skills they have learned in more complicated situations as well as learning new more advanced parkour movements. This class should be an enjoyable challenge for students looking to go beyond the basic parkour class.
Prerequisites: Instructor permission required; one year of UMO Parkour classes, or other advanced movement experience is needed.

Backflip Workshop
(ages 10-18)
In this 5-part workshop series students will be safely lead through the progression of strength and skills needed to perform a standing backflip. Starting with mobility, activation, and drills, students will take turns working up to a spotted backflip with a partner. Each week will bring students closer to beginning mastery of backflips.
Instructor Abraham McBride has been teaching parkour, free running, and acrobatics for over 12 years. He is a certified parkour instructor through Parkour Visions after completing a 1.5 year apprenticeship program under Rafe Kelly.

In this class, students will learn the basics of skateboarding with master skateboarder Bobby Dodd, including balance, falls, and keeping steady. Beginners welcome!
Class will be held inside or outside, depending on the weather.
A board, helmet, and closed-toe shoes are required. Please reach out if you need help sourcing this equipment.

Martial Arts
Japanese Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Aikido. These kindred “gentle” arts will help youth and parents learn confidence, patience, perseverance, kinesthetic awareness, and martial skills.

Jiu Jitsu & Judo
(ages 5-99)
UMO School and the Vashon Grappling Club are partnering to offer Japanese Judo and Brazilian jiu jitsu. These kindred gentle martial arts will help young students learn confidence, patience, perseverance, kinesthetic awareness, and martial skills. The goal of these sports is to encourage your opponent into surrender using techniques of leverage, holds and throws. Classes will consist of warm-ups and conditioning, technical instruction and practice (throws or take-downs, submissions and defenses), randori (free sparring), and games. The course will be taught by club instructors, Sean Lang and Bobby Dodd.
Families registered for these classes may also attend Open Mat time on Saturdays at 10:00am.Tue/Thu

Kickboxing Workout
(ages 11-19)
Taught by certified kickboxing instructor Axel Sullivan, students will explore kickboxing moves in a fun workout atmosphere, designed for teens.
This class is offered at the discounted rate of $120 for the whole session in partnership with ORBIT Youth Space.

Adult Aerial
(ages 18+)
Tissue, Rope, and Trapeze will be explored and students will learn and build on basics, advance their skills, and develop routines on their preferred apparatus.
If enough students of different levels register, the class may be divided according to levels to best serve the participants.
Adult Open Gym for individual practice is included with this class at no additional cost.

Jiu Jitsu Lab - Adult
Jiu Jitsu Lab is an adult, all levels meetup. Martial Arts instructors Bobby Dodd and Sean Lang will lead these sessions along with other high ranking Vashon martial artists and guest grapplers dropping in to share their knowledge.
The class will focus on a collaborative approach which analyzes and works through the myriad of technical aspects of a variety of grappling arts, namely Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling. General fitness will be cultivated through dynamic warm ups, flowing movements, and light stretching. Technical knowledge will be gained by practicing and reviewing common techniques and social connections will be formed through mutually beneficial practice. Sparring is optional.
